I enjoy challenges and helping students overcome what seems "impossible". Each time I teach, I become better because students teach me how to teach them. It's important to understand individual interests and how each student approaches problems because everyone is different. For example, creating analogies is an impetus to learning. To get a better idea of how I approach this style of teaching, I wrote an article: "Education for the Young Mind: The Science Behind Pogo Sticking." I tend to treat Math as a Game; how do I (the student) get to the answer? I go over the basics, set up the "plan of attack" to reach a conclusion. It's re-emphasizing the "Rules of the Game". I really want to get the parent(s) involved in this process.
I love tutoring, especially when students get it! The "light bulb" goes on.The most remarks I get are - "why did'nt my teacher show us that way?" I was chosen to teach math at a charter middle school; but the Board of Education (Manatee) voted to shut down that school after three days on the job.
