I have Substituted for two elementary schools on several occasions and I've subbed at a jr./sr. High once. I have had wonderful experiences and I love working with children. I am currently a senior at Indiana Univeristy Kokomo. I will graduate in spring 2013 with a B.A. in Psychology and minors in Leadership Studies as well as International Studies/Relations. Since reading is such a necessary skill, I learned different techniques, such as Orton-Gillingham Phonetic Approach, Reading Recovery, and Whole Language Approach. I learned to incorporate not only phonics, but also 250 must-know sight words, context clues, and colr-codded words to help with reading difficulties. I believe that grammar and punctuation are critical in written expression. I am very focused on the learning style of the student and will begin with most student making that determination and connection with the student. I also work well with students who are dyslexic, have ADD/ADHD, and who are left-handed. For high school tutoring I prefer to use the New Critical approach to the text. Only by finding the balance and symmetry in a text can the themes and symbols can make sense.
