A Little Bit About Me...

In 2009, I graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor degree in Classics with a minor in Art History. During my senior year, I was the primary Latin instructor for a 7 year old home schooled student. I developed a curriculum for a full year's worth of classes as well as designed learning activities to instruct in the Roman culture in addition to Latin.
I believe that each student has the ability to learn and understand material as long as they are taught the right tools to harness their potential. I am patient with each student, allowing them to learn at their own pace. My teaching style allows my student to feel comfortable and confident to use the learning tools I supply. I believe students learn best if their coursework is designed to be discovered rather than set as something to simply memorize. I currently have a BA in Liberal Studies (Education) from Cal-State Northridge. During my years at this university, I took classes to work in the elementary school setting and as a result, have observed and participated in various elementary school settings from Kindergarten through the 5th grade. While I was there, I also helped tutor a special needs student who was in some of my classes who needed help with English and Linguistics. I am currently taking classes in early childhood education so that I can work with the younger children as well.
I believe that all children can learn if they are motivated to do so. Therefore, I believe that the best way to teach a child is to do it in a way that will allow them to take the initiative in their own learning.
