A Little Bit About Me...

I have a BA in psychology and have worked for 12 years in the mental health field. I am currently working on getting my Elem. Ed teaching license and have completed all the coursework and have completed my pre-clinicals. I am scheduled to do my student teaching this September in a second grade classroom at Taylors Falls Elementary school. I hold a short call teaching license and have been substitute teaching three to five days per week for the past two school years in five different school district. A Little Bit About Me...

As cliché as this sounds - my favorite part of teaching is the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference. I have interacted with individuals across countless backgrounds and understand the idea of each student needing to hear things in their own terms. The simple concept penetrates through my patient teaching style. Some of my favorite ways to connect with students is to create simple analogies using subjects which interest them. A Little Bit About Me...

As a student I enjoyed school and learning and therefore went on after high school to obtain a B.S in Biology. I have always enjoyed science, math, and writing and enjoy helping others in these subjects as well as others. My first tutoring experience was tutoring underprivileged high school students weekly. I then began tutoring middle school and high school students weekly. Over the course of the school year, the children I tutored had improved a great deal in their courses and now had a positive outlook on learning. I will be a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Superior in just a few short weeks with my degree in English and Communications. I enjoy the diverse learners that an urban setting can bring. Different experiences and different lives can lead to many futures. One thing I have learned in my many years as a tutor is that each student is unique. I try to be flexible in my approach. With grammar and mechanics, I have found that a directive manner is often the best approach; sometimes, however, students require clarification of ideas and organization, in which case I pose questions and share observations, rather than instruct. With reading assignments, clarification of thesis, organization, and vocabulary are usually most helpful. Overall, I try to be as student-centered as possible in my approach to tutoring, without sacrificing a commitment to high quality instruction.
