A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had an interest in teaching. I graduated from college with my AA while working with the University of Michigan Department of Hospital Finance Training. From there I took some time off to finish my degrees. While going for my BA I worked with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was elected President of the Auxiliary and of the District. I am presently finishing up my MBA while working at Convergys as a Trainer for at&t material and presently being trained as a virtual trainer. I have assisted my daughter, my brother and several others over the years with their school work. I was always good in English and received A's.

My style of teaching is one that strives to bring an overall understanding of the importance and relevance of the subject at hand. I believe children, as well as all people, learn much better and have much greater retention when they understand the bigger picture involved and understand why it is important to learn the subject at hand. I believe in relating the topics to something the pupil can understand and therefore grasp. One of my greatest teachers was a chemistry professor who was able to explain a complicated chemistry concept in terms of a McDonald's Happy Meal. I am a fun teacher and enjoy tricking students into learning. I have developed games, songs, and various devices which attract attention and result in learning, regardless of whether the student even notices. I have a knack for revising sentences or instructions to captivate attention which encourages the student to answer or start writing immediately. They become known for getting dependent on doing their homework with me, but eventually I cease being an enabler once the result of our efforts start producing better grades.

I have loved teaching and working with children and youth all my life. I worked for 4 years at Easter Seal Camp, helping with people of special needs; The YMCA, as day camp counselor, and upon entering into the ministry felt that I have been teaching children, youth, and adults for the past 40+ years.
