A Little Bit About Me...

My years of teaching have been greatly varied—traditional/ non-traditional, in the States /overseas, regular/special needs students, children/adults, and with a great variety of nationalities (Swedish, British, Slovak, Serbian, Jordanian, Russian, Dutch, South African, etc.). I have homeschooled our five children. I have provided English conversation classes for children. Also, I founded and directed an English educational resource center for expatriate children, like an international school, but smaller scale and with more individualized instruction. My teaching has covered K-12, and adults in business training. Now, back in the States, I’m substitute teaching, especially in the elementary and special education areas.

After receiving a degree in Sociology from a New York State University, I went on to earn a provisional teaching certificate in Biology. I have twenty-one graduate hours in Reading and eleven graduate hours in Early Childhood Education. My previous work experience had me working with families where one adult was in need of a GED. I have tutored students from elementary through high school in every subject (except Foreign Languages) for over ten years. I have also worked with entering BOCES LPN students on math review and raised many of their entry level grades twenty points. I have also been very successful tutoring children with behavior problems.

I have a wide range of teaching experience; most at the elementary level. I have worked in three different districts with various age groups. I have a Bachelor of Science degree-in the area of Physical Education. I then completed my Master of Science degree in the area of Elementary Education. I have New York State certification in three different areas-Childhood Education-Grades 1-6, Early Childhood Education-Birth –Grade 2 and Physical Education – Grades K-12. I have worked in a traditional classroom setting, as an AIS teaching offering students additional support in reading and math and I have worked in inclusion classrooms.
