A Little Bit About Me...

Even as a student i helped my fellow students to understand and grasp the subjects they were having difficulty with. i can generaly spinn the information into a subject matter that interests the individual or just explain it in an easier to understand manner, offted they just get lolst in the language of teaching. i minnored in math, and majorred in science and agriculture in high school, ansd took veternary technology in colledge this involved mostly biologies and lab technigues.
i have never taught professionaly, but have assisted fellow students. the methods i useed to help them were ither to incorporate the subject matter into a sumject that they had a personal interest in, or manny time i found that they just didnot understand the language of the subject so i reexplained it in simpler terms and they got it just fine.

A Little Bit About Me...

My years of teaching have been greatly varied—traditional/ non-traditional, in the States /overseas, regular/special needs students, children/adults, and with a great variety of nationalities (Swedish, British, Slovak, Serbian, Jordanian, Russian, Dutch, South African, etc.). I have homeschooled our five children. I have provided English conversation classes for children. Also, I founded and directed an English educational resource center for expatriate children, like an international school, but smaller scale and with more individualized instruction. My teaching has covered K-12, and adults in business training. Now, back in the States, I’m substitute teaching, especially in the elementary and special education areas.

I believe the key to teaching at the elementary level is developing a love of learning in the student. A student will simply go through the motions if they are not invested in the subject. I do this in the classroom by sharing my own love of science, books and reading. Focusing on student choice of books and using that as the basis for comprehension, vocabulary and phonics instruction my goal is for the student to challenge themselves and develop a habit of reading everywhere. Science is taught through discovery. My job in science is to create content rich learning experiences and guide students through them.

Teaching young people and seeing them succeed is such a reward. Many students find the conventional school setting difficult and work with greater success in a one on one setting. Getting to know the student and his or her learning style along with some background enables a tutor to create an atmosphere where the student will be most successful. The student can feel comfortable asking questions, which is not always the case in a traditional classroom. My goal as a tutor is to have a student comfortable and successful!

A Little Bit About Me...

Coming from a large family and having a large family myself, I have always been around children of all ages and enjoyed working with kids to develop themselves and prepare them for a meaningful place in our society. I am very patient with children and will use different approaches to teach. I try very hard to install a love of learning and work hard to encourage a curiousity of any subject that interests them. I believe that all children can be successful learners. The key is to find the method of teaching that works best for each child. Some children can read something and understand the information perfectly. Others need to have the information read to them and then explained in greater detail. Still others learn best when they are allowed to have hands-on experiences or when the information to be learned is equated to his or her own life. It is important to find the style or styles that work best for each child and then tailor the learning to that style-the child’s learning style is the most important factor.
