A Little Bit About Me...

I currently work in a PreK-12 School setting as a Certified School Library Media Specialist. I am responsible for teaching Prek-6th grade library/research lessons. When I am not teaching I am monitoring 7-12 students who are utilizing the library media cnter. I manage two library spaces, am the primary purchaser for books, technologies, and databases, and work closely with the administration team to meet and exceed curricular goals. Previously I worked in a K-6 setting with similar responsibilities. While working with on my Masters degree I substitute taught in several of the area school districts. I am active in my school community, participating in several committees and working as the editor in chief for the school's monthly newsletter.

I have homeschooled our five children. I have provided English conversation classes for children. Also, I founded and directed an English educational resource center for expatriate children, like an international school, but smaller scale and with more individualized instruction. All children are diverse learners. All children learn differently, and no two are alike. Good instruction includes fitting the lesson according to the learner. Tutoring a child who is a book learner is different than a child who needs visuals or manipulatives. Some children need academics tied into real life experiences. All children and adolescents can successfully acquire and process new information. Many students encounter difficulty learning in a traditional school setting because the large class sizes do not afford the teacher the time to learn about each individual and attend to his or her specific needs. As a tutor, I find my students' strongest learning modalities. In doing so, my students learn to trust and respect me as a person and see me as a support.
