I am particularly impressed by "deep learning," a movement that emphasizes critical thinking and inquiry at all levels of teaching. A Little Bit About Me...

Growing up I was a very driven to get my masters in accounting. Once I graduated with my Bachelor of Science, I moved straight into getting my masters of business administration with a concentration in accounting. While getting working towards my masters I was a graduate assistant. During that time I worked in the accounting lab tutoring undergraduate students in their business classes. For the last four years I have worked for a public accounting firm as a senior auditor.
I love working with kids and people of all ages. I believe that all people can learn, but each in different ways. I believe in taking the time to get to know the child and his/her learning behaviors and catering to the child. I strive to make a difference in as many peoples lives as I can.

A Little Bit About Me...

When teaching a math lesson I begin by going over skills already mastered that lead to the lesson at hand. After teaching the new material I then have the student try a similar problem while I watch. If necessary I coach them along, pointing out any problem areas. Then I require the student to try more of the same type of problems until he or she has mastered the new material. It's very important to me that the student understand what he or she is doing and why it works. In other words, I don't just teach them how to do individual problems.
I have enjoyed teaching in private schools of and on for the last 22 years. I have tutored Algebra through Calculus I and Elementary Statistics for the last three years. 1.5 years at both Wichita State University and Washburn University. I'm currently working on a second Bachelors degree in mathematics, but this time with an emphasis in Actuarial Science. This mixes calculus, algebra, and statistics, along with some business classes, into one, keeping them fresh in my mind.
I like starting with the given information and stepping through the processes to solve a problem. Reminding them of, or even showing them, the rules, properties, and examples in the book. I normally try to find the method that best works with each pupil, then highlight on that. I also make sure not to do the work for the student. I will sometimes come up with a similar problem to work through so they can see what's really going on within the problem.

I have learned a lot of techniques in teaching. I am currently teaching twenty hours a week to adults in High School Science, some Electives, and in Mathematics.
