Given the right atmosphere, I honestly believe anyone can learn. Unfortunately, many individuals are given labels, especially regarding their learning capacity, and once that belief system is in place, the expectations are often lowered and self-esteem suffers. I believe in positive encouragement and support, while working through difficulties with a 'can do' attitude on my part which then becomes, with reinforcement and consistency, the belief of the child. I spent 3 years subsituting in the Sacramento USD system while I went to school for my credentials. I then taught in a pull-out RSP program in 4th and 5th grade ,1/2 time and a high school push-out RSP program the rest of the day. I have also taught 3rd grade. In the past I spent 3 years teaching driving and I have been a sales trainer. I home-schooled my daughter, and she is in college now with a 3.oo gpa. I have knowledge of the various impedements to learning and am able to help a student overcome them. I believe all children can learn, you just need to be patient and understanding.
