Mr. Frederick Vaughan has a very extensive and diversified musical background as a woodwind instrumentalist. He has performed professionally in 25 countries touring with several bands and ensembles such as rock bands, jazz bands, jazz combos, New Orleans style brass bands, military bands, polka bands, chamber groups, and orchestras. He as played for numerous dignitaries including, 3 United States presidents, ambassadors, foreign presidents, and congressmen. I tutored during my junior and senior years in North Carolina and I've also done private tutoring in Gainesville. In addition, I coached 4-12 year olds how to swim. The easiest way I can explain my teaching style is to begin with the fact that I have worked for Disney for the past 6 years. I always have a smile on my face, and I believe that encouragement is the basis for all true learning. Students need someone to encourage them more than feed them facts. By guiding students through new concepts and learning with them instead of for them, each student is building his or her own learning tools that are more likely to last than the tools their tutor may provide for one homework assignment and never use again. Over the last year, I learned a Chinese saying that describes my attitude toward teaching: "Interest is the best teacher." I believe that the key to helping students learn is capturing their interest and helping them develop skills to learn for themselves.
