A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked in both General Education and ESE education. I speak spanish fluently and french, semifluently. I also have some background in American Sign Language. I have also worked with the emotionally disturbed child.
I use whatever works best for the child and can hold their attention span. It depends largely on the child's age, interests, and whether or not there are any learning, or any other disabilities. All children are capable of learning and enjoying to learn. I believe all children, whether normal developing or special needs deserves the same experiences, just delivered in different ways.

Hands on teaching and kinesthetic learning are key to success in my mind. I love to involve the student's entire body in the learning process. From their senses to their movements to memory device techniques in the form of song or poem, using alternative methods of teaching seems more effective in the learning process.

I was enrolled in the Master's Program for Elementary Education at the University of Florida and volunteered over 300 hours in the public school system. I have only one year left before obtaining my advanced degree should I decide to return to school. I have also been a tutor and mentor for at-risk youth. I have volunteered with the public library and used to spend one day a week reading to children in foster homes. I have spent the past year as a Lead Teacher in Colorado where I was able to have my own classroom, assistant and students. I have worked with several children with special needs and was able to work with several professionals in the best way to teach my students.
I keep an open mind that most children learn in different ways. I try to provide lots of different ways of learning the same subject. I have a background in Anthropology and have traveled extensively th ... read more

After graduation with my BSEE, I have been trying out employment in the Engineering field. My math and physics skills have become the front-runners in my tutoring career. This past summer, I tutored students attending Boston University and Boston College in Allston and Brighton, Massachusetts. The areas of tutoring that I offered were: Math - All calculus, Linear Algebra, Ordinary Differential Equations. Science - Physics I, II, Statics/Dynamics. Engineering - Circuits, Control Theory (Linear and State-Space), Microprocessors, and C, C++, Verilog programming.
Mostly I prefer relating abstract concepts to everyday life. I believe if a student can parallel course material with events that occur in his or her life then he or she will always remember the concept and have a deeper understanding of it.

My teaching style consist of explaining the information, asking open ended questions and re-explaining the information again. If I notice the student is having trouble answering the questions then I use a different teaching approach. I try to relate the questions to something the person has experienced in his/her culture.
Since 1988 I have taught or tutored various levels of students from primary to secondary grade levels. As a student that always excelled (Member of Phi Theta Honor Society, Honor graduate, Raines Scholar, Who's Who Among High School Students, AP student, Vice-President of the National Junior Honor Society) I found it easy to help others understand concepts they may have missed during class. Most of the tutoring I did was due to a concerned parent asking for my assistance. One example was a young lady that I tutored during the summer. She had trouble during t ... read more

There is nothing more rewarding than helping a child learn. In teaching what works for one student may not work for another, it is as individual as the child, but all children can learn. My goal is to provide your child with the tools to succeed academically. I am patient and compassionate in my teaching, and expect students to put forth the effort. I believe in rewarding a child when appropriate and making learning a positive, fun experience.

For over eight years I have been a substitute teacher working primarily in all grades of elementary education, including Exceptional Student Education (ESE) classes. My first job was with the Duval County Public School system(DCPS) as a paraprofessional at Fishweir Elementary, where I worked with children grades K-5th. My freshman year of college I tutored second grade students at Hubert O. Sibley Elementary in the America Reads program. Since then in I was hired by the Jacksonville Urban League as a substitute teacher based on the fact I have over 90 college credit hours in my chosen major English. I have gained a profusion of writing techniques due my extensive work with linguistic pedagogy in the professional writing field. Also throughout my years of learning I've tutored and aided several members of my church with their education.

A Little Bit About Me...

I took the Montessori Method courses in my twenties, and was so fascinated by it I decided to get a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood. From there, I went to on to teach all elementary grades and subjects in both private and public schools. For a time, I taught English as a Second Language to both children and adults, and then moved into my favorite area, music! Throughout all these fields of interest, one constant remains: learning is what keeps life dynamic, no matter what our age might be!
I thoroughly enjoy teaching all ages, and because of my wide variety of experiences, I am able to keep the learning activities varied, relevant, and interesting. Working with so many ages and nationalities, I've become acutely aware of the many different styles of learning, and work hard to find methods that appeal to every learning style.

I enjoy working with children. There are several assessment tools that I use in order to see where I would need to begin with any child. One of my favorite forms of assessment is Great Leaps.I have used this program and have seen growth in all subjects with students. A Little Bit About Me...

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and I have a Master's degree in Family, Youth and Community Science, with a focus on youth and community development. I was a substitute teacher in the Atlanta area for one year which gave me the chance to mentor and tutor several high school students in math. I have worked with kids through volunteer opportunities as well, such as a local community garden at a middle school. I have excellent written communication skills as well due to writing a thesis, research reports and running a business for the past 5 years.
I love mentoring and working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but they all have different learning styles (auditory, visual, tactile, and kinesthetic).
