I have worked in both General Education and ESE education. I speak spanish fluently and french, semifluently. I also have some background in American Sign Language. I have also worked with the emotionally disturbed child.
I use whatever works best for the child and can hold their attention span. It depends largely on the child's age, interests, and whether or not there are any learning, or any other disabilities. I really enjoy teaching all ages. From my background in coaching young children how to swim I've become well adjusted to dealing with difficult situatioins in a learning environment. However, I always want to provide my students with the best learning environment possible. I graduated from Davidson College with a major in economics, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of both math and social science. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and I have a Master's degree in Family, Youth and Community Science, with a focus on youth and community development. I have always had an inclination to teach. To me, there is something very exciting about conveying understanding of a concept to another person. I think I have a particular ability for identifying precisely what aspect of a problem a student does not understand and then elucidating that point. I think much instructional time is spent inefficiently in explaining what a student already understands and not explaining what he or she does not understand. I graudated from Oberlin College in 2005. My coursework included not only music instruction classes, but also general education courses. During my time at Oberlin I worked as an ESL tutor. After graduation I moved to the country of Ecuador to serve as a music and English teacher. After returning to the U.S. I was employed as a substitute teacher in Florida.
