I really like working with children from low income families. I think each child has a different interest and way of learning. I try to discover these learning styles before I begin the tutoring process. I try to allow them to be comfortable and having fun during our sessions. Most of the time I do a lot of question/conversation responses to allow them to find the answer for themselves. I like a problem based learning style, even for the youngest of children. I not only want to teach them how to properly concur their learning material but how to find the information they need if they do not know the answer. I graudated from Oberlin College in 2005. My coursework included not only music instruction classes, but also general education courses. During my time at Oberlin I worked as an ESL tutor. After graduation I moved to the country of Ecuador to serve as a music and English teacher. After returning to the U.S. I was employed as a substitute teacher in Florida. The easiest way I can explain my teaching style is to begin with the fact that I have worked for Disney for the past 6 years. I always have a smile on my face, and I believe that encouragement is the basis for all true learning. Students need someone to encourage them more than feed them facts.
