I have experience with teaching having completed three semesters of internships through my undergraduate and graduate programs; I taught Kindergarten, First and Seventh grades. In said roles, I was given full control of the classroom by my mentoring supervisors. I believe in completing an individual needs assessment and designing a study approach around that assessment. I believe in constant reinforcement and reassessment. I also believe it is useful to utilize as many and as varied forms of instruction as possible (written, audio-visual, demonstration, etc.) to solidify a concept. Promoting thorough understanding rather than route memory and recognition skills is paramount.
Over the years (as undergrad and graduate), I have tutored middle school and elementary age students in various subjects. Throughout college I was a tutor with a Learning Center. I worked with children in grades K-12. At this center, we helped build reading and math skills individually and in groups. I was also a private tutor for a high school student. Together we improved her study skills and organization. I assisted her with writing assignments, projects, and daily homework. I also worked in the Camden County school system as a substitute teacher and secretary. At Mercer University, I earned my BA in Communications and Theater Arts, and an English minor. Teaching, in general, has always been a passion of mine. I received my BA in Elementary Education in May of 2007. My internship experience was teaching Language Arts in a middle school in Chicago, IL. Upon moving to Fernandina Beach, I became a teacher for Catapult Learning in Jacksonville. During this time, I provided supplemental Reading/Math instruction to students in the first through sixth grades whose test scores were below grade level. I have also provided a six week tutoring service for the FCAT at Yulee Elementary.
