I also help my clients understand the materials given to them and even help them find anything relating to their course of study which will help them in their assignments.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching experience began in high school, when I would review and edit my classmates essays. On several occasions, I also went through essays line by line. In addition, I taught swim lessons to preschool aged children, and helped coach crew to high school aged students. Throughout college, I continued to aid my peers with their essays, and often participated in workshops outside of class. As a writer, I have extensively studied methods of teaching to English Language Learners, and native speakers alike. I have also conducted research in rhetoric studies and language acquisition. The most important element of achieving success in school is self confidence. The way I help build that in children is by being extremely positive, supportive, and full of praise. I observe their behavior carefully to make sure they truly understand what they are being taught. When something is challenging to a child, I try different methods until I know it “clicked”. Another very important part of tutoring is communicating with the students’ guardians about their behavior or any stressors. Through my extensive coursework and research and practical application in the classroom, I found quite quickly that there are several different learning styles. It is important to create lessons that they are approachable for visual learners, auditory learners, kinesthetic learners and so forth. Over the years (as undergrad and graduate), I have tutored middle school and elementary age students in various subjects. I have also been a resource for undergrad and graduate health science students while serving as a graduate assistant (public health master's program). I proctored exams and held tutoring and review sessions prior to testing. I have two master's degrees, three undergraduate degrees, and experience as a paramedic, nurse, and substitute teacher.
I believe in completing an individual needs assessment and designing a study approach around that assessment. I believe in constant reinforcement and reassessment. I love children and watching their eyes light up when understanding a certain subject brings joy to my heart. Patience is one of my strong points and I try to let the child reach thier goals in learning as independently as possible by encouraging them to work toward and answer to a question methodically and using a "figure it out" type style. On the other hand, I stay by my students side offering a shoulder to lean on, and support when struggling.
