My teaching style consist of using a variety of learning technique and atmospheres. It is a good idea to study the habits and styles of other composers, classical and modern to get an idea of how that compares to the student's style. Writing or composing sample songs based on someone else's style is a good idea, such as Beethoven, or David Newman, etc. Using theory practice is useful, but doesn't necessarily define a composer. Writing can always be improved, and each student has areas of strength and weakness. I try to pick one area that needs the most attention, and focus on it.
