I have found that tutoring sessions are most effective when they are fun! Many students find it difficult to stay focused, especially after a full school day. For this reason, I prefer to change tasks frequently and use a variety of fun games to switch up the pace of the session. Learning can be frustrating for many students when a particular subject does not come as naturally or easily as other subjects. After receiving my degree at Northwest College in Kirkland (now University), I worked, enhanced my music skills, married and had children. From 1995-1996 I obtained my TESL certificate at Edmonds Community College. I tutored two middle school students from Korea for one year. Then I taught 9th grade English to 15 international students at Snohomish County Christian School for one year. As a regular classroom teacher, I felt hampered due to class size. I was never satisfied connecting with just a few students. Every student was important to me. I realized that the only way for me to really reach students was by reducing the teacher-student ratio. As a tutor, I found that teaching smaller groups of students or one-on-one was for me. Using this style, I feel strongly that students learn more, particularly at home. Students are much more comfortable at home which creates an excellent environment for learning. Learning is a joyful experience and students have a better chance of tapping into their potential.

I have tutored in Colombia as an English tutor. I have spent several years volunteering as a tutor at various high schools, middle schools, and have worked professionally as a tutor at Seattle University. I am a native Spanish speaker. I taught marriage education classes in Spanish for 2.5 years.
I believe that teaching is guided by the student. When the student shows that something is working we keep using it, if they don't like something we try something new. Everyone is different. Some people need more hands on, others need more example, and some people want the material to be life relevant so we do more conversation and real life stuff.
