My primary aim in tutoring students is to assess exactly where they are academically, including reading level and math skills. Then I teach to their exact level. I help them to set up realistic goals and strive to meet those goals. Encouraging students and helping them to see their progress is a big part of their feeling satisfied that their efforts are showing dividends. I have been a full-time certified Florida mediator in family and circuit civil cases since 1988. I meet with people who are divorcing or otherwise suing each other and persuade them, if I can, to settle their differences. Since the collapse of the housing market in Florida, and the elimination of home equity from which people financed mediation, the business has contracted substantially. While being a mediator for 22 years, it was my responsibility to tutor and mentor for people trying to become mediators. I spent several hours a month through my career doing such work. When a student is positive and feels that sense of pride; he will open himself up more to the idea of learning. Secondly, I will always do readings and visuals to stimulate both areas of the brain to ensure it is absorbed.
