My last semester at FSU I internship with 1st grade students. I assisted students with areas they were struggled in and encouraged them to push themselves. I tutored several students in reading and writing skills. I also helped prepared students for their weekly math tests. By the end of the semester I took over teaching the class. Some classes in my major required me to do projects with children. As a volunteer, I participated this past year at camp Woe-Be-Gone. This is a one day camp that works with about 120 children, helping them learn at the museum of science and industry while understanding and coping with the illness or loss of loved one. In high school I volunteered with Best Buddies, allowing me to work with handicapped children. I also participated in TOPS as an assistant coach for handicapped children. During my ten-week internship at the middle school, I had five classes of sixth grade advanced reading students. Since each class was about 20 students, I had about 100 students in total. The middle school has about 908 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. Of those students, 58% are white, 24% are black, 8% are Hispanic, 4% are Asian, and 6% are multiracial. There are 49 teachers and three administrators in the west Gainesville middle school. Thirty-nine percent of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Range

I enjoy teaching, espcially to children. I believe that students can learn the best with the best teachers. A good teacher should assess students correctly, so that he/she can provide approiate materials and teaching. According to students' academic progress, teachers should also adjust their lessons to fit students' needs. With all those qualification, a teacher should also be passionate about teaching, and the sucess of the students. As a class teacher, I have gained the experience teaching ENglish and Math to young children. I also had multiple parttime tutoring experience, which provided me additional experience teaching students from different backgrounds and age groups. I have also been interested in Math, and am curretly taking an online Math class, which can refresh my memory and allow me to tutor Math efficiently.
