My last semester at FSU I internship with 1st grade students. I assisted students with areas they were struggled in and encouraged them to push themselves. I tutored several students in reading and writing skills. I also helped prepared students for their weekly math tests. By the end of the semester I took over teaching the class. Some classes in my major required me to do projects with children. As a volunteer, I participated this past year at camp Woe-Be-Gone. This is a one day camp that works with about 120 children, helping them learn at the museum of science and industry while understanding and coping with the illness or loss of loved one. In high school I volunteered with Best Buddies, allowing me to work with handicapped children. I also participated in TOPS as an assistant coach for handicapped children. I love working with children of all ages. I really like elementary age children. I have a hands-on approach to education. I want kids to get their hands into activities so that they may retain things longer. Now I do realize that not every student is hands-on. I want to encourage creative expression through different styles of writing, and I want them to develop a love for reading, or at least find a few books that they absolutely can’t stop reading. As a class teacher, I have gained the experience teaching ENglish and Math to young children. I also had multiple parttime tutoring experience, which provided me additional experience teaching students from different backgrounds and age groups.
