I have spent the last three year being a nanny and tutor for kids in a variety of age groups. I have worked with all kinds of kids including special needs children, group home kids, High school students in AP classes, and Dyslexic children. Teaching math is much different than doing math. Although I have a Bachlors in Mathamatics from Northern Illinois University, my training from The Pi Group in Singapore Math Instruction is really what sets me apart. The U.S. ranks 25th in the world for Math Education. Singapore is consistently first or 2nd. Students build a deep understanding through the use of muniplulatives and pictorial representations. When students think they are "bad at math", it is usually an issue of the instruction they are receiving. I am a former social worker, "turned teacher". I returned to school in 1998 to "recycle myself" and finished an M.A. in 2000. I did not continue, to become a fully credentialed teacher.
