Experience Summary
Hello! To provide some background information on myself: I am a current student at California Polytechnic SLO, double majoring in both computer science and physics. I graduated from Mira Loma High School’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, following the most rigorous curriculum offered at the school, including, but not limited to, courses such as IB Math Further Level.
I have had a great deal of experience tutoring students throughout my four years at high schools and this passion has continued on into my university years. I have tutoring students at the university level in both math and the sciences (I specialize primarily in physics and chemistry).
I have experience teaching any level of middle school or high school mathematics ranging from Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB/BC, and SAT/ACT Math prep.
In high school, the curriculum of the IB Further Level Math course gave me a wide introduction to the fields of Discrete Math, Elementary Graph Theory, Advanced Euclidean Geometry etc. At Cal Poly, I was also introduced to advanced real analysis for those who might be interested in higher level mathematics.
Furthermore, I have also taken many classes at American River College throughout my high school career such as Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Statistics etc. I was awarded an Associates Degree in Mathematics after successful completion of all necessary courses with reasonably good scores. To earn eligibility for taking these courses, I have had to take several entrance exams to demonstrate above average proficiency in previous math courses.
Teaching Style
I believe that the best way for a tutor to assist the student is to adapt to the individual’s learning style. We all have different approaches to learning and identifying which method maximizing your understanding of the topic helps to not only gain insight into difficult concepts, but furthermore increases your interest in the subject being taught. I have tutored countless students since my middle school years and have found this method to be most efficient. I find that given both my experience and younger age, it is far easier for me to approach a student and help them learn to the best of their capabilities.
My Hobbies
Ever since 8th grade, tutoring has forever remained a passion. When I entered the IB program at Mira Loma, my primary extracurricular community service activities were centered on tutoring students at school and in the local neighborhood. Aside from this, I also like to read biographies and play tennis.
