I am a professional teacher. I have 15 years of experience teaching. I have taught Math and Computer Science in college. Also I have taught in both public and private school systems. I have experience private tutoring for students in school, college and also university. I do understand that all students learn at different degrees but they all can learn better. So I am always teaching my students with considering their individual characteristics. I enjoy teaching because I very often hear from my students that they really start to understand Math or Computer Science better only when I take them to learn. My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. I entered Virginia Tech as an honors math and physics student and graduated in three years with my BS in physics. At the moment I am trying to decide if I would like to go to grad school to continue on to something else, hopefully with math and physic as at least peripherally relevant. I have never taught a class and have tutored in only in a limited capacity. My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. Practice-Theory-Practice. I try to stay very focused on doing examples and practice problems. Some theory is necessary for a deep understanding, but it has to come at the right time. The student first needs some practice or at least an attempt to appreciate the process involved in solving a problem. Then I try and bring to light any issues and cover some theory. Then we do more practice. I helped many students who had previously given up hope to pass the CLAST exam and I taught the math portion of an SAT prep course through FGCU's CAA. I tutored LD students through Adaptive Services at FGCU I taught labs at FGCU for intermediate and college algebra, statistics and business calculus.
