Teaching Math in English and Russian.

I am a professional teacher. I have 15 years of experience teaching. I have taught Math and Computer Science in college. Also I have taught in both public and private school systems. I have experience private tutoring for students in school, college and also university. I do understand that all students learn at different degrees but they all can learn better. So I am always teaching my students with considering their individual characteristics. I enjoy teaching because I very often hear from my students that they really start to understand Math or Computer Science better only when I take them to learn. Working one-on-one with a student is a great opportunity to really focus on the individual characteristics and academic needs of the student and helping them to be more successful in learning.

My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store.

A Little Bit About Me...

My major complaint with the current pedagogy of STEM fields is there focus on teaching students to be able to produce answers so a slew of canned and frankly uninteresting problem sets. There is so much interesting literature, philosophy, and history in the fields of science and physics that it makes very little sense to muddle with these less helpful and dull techniques and problems. Physics and math education has become so perforated with cliche that shows like Cosmos and the elegant universe can become hits by just regurgitating the same buzz-theories (Schrodinger's cat, Black holes, the multiverse etc.) in the same, cloddish language (space-time is 'warped' and twisted, quantum 'weirdness', etc). This lack of original language and analogy is not a semantical issue; it's suggestive of the philistine cleaving of the sciences from the arts and it's very disturbing -- these truly awesome ... read more

Let's get you an A!

I find it partucularly useful to take time to get to know the student's interests so that I can relate each subject to things that the student is familiar with. Making this connection between a difficult concept and the student's personal areas of interest helps the student feel comfortable with the subject and therefore more confident thinking through each question presented. Once confidence is established, it becomes easier for students to develop an understanding of the subject area that can be applied without the tutor present.

More About This Tutor...

My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam. No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

Experienced Tutor, Degree in Math!

Practice-Theory-Practice. I try to stay very focused on doing examples and practice problems. Some theory is necessary for a deep understanding, but it has to come at the right time. The student first needs some practice or at least an attempt to appreciate the process involved in solving a problem. Then I try and bring to light any issues and cover some theory. Then we do more practice.
I helped many students who had previously given up hope to pass the CLAST exam and I taught the math portion of an SAT prep course through FGCU's CAA. I taught AP Calculus and AP Statistics at a private school. I taught Pre-calc and Algebra II through Lee County School District.

I hope to tutor teenagers that i can teach and learn from

I can be strict but I do show empathy and try to put myself in other's situation. I don't judge I believe every child learns in thier own way but with time and patience it can be done. I do push sometimes to see results but in the end the happy ending is worth it. I guarentee to show them a few strategies that are unique and will stick to them forever. I do require parents to cooperate when possible. thank you

I am a person who very much enjoys helping people understand subjects that are scary and difficult for them. Presently, I am teaching linear algebra to a dyslexic woman. She's taken the class five times and this time she is passing! In the past, I have tutored physics, algebra, calculus, finite math, statistics, elementary school math, and freshman, bio- and organic chemistry. I have taught a 4 1/2 and 3 1/2 yr old to read, taught the 3 1/2 yr. old additon and subtraction, and a fourth grader algebra. Also, I have helped students to organize and write papers using proper grammar. In college, I tutored one-on-one and in small groups.
I enjoy teaching because I like the "ah ha!" or "eureka!" that people have when they discover and learn. I enjoy seeing them develop confidence in themselves. My goal is to teach in a way that the student can grasp and I realize that different peop ... read more

I am quite patient and will explain something as many times and in as many new ways as one possibly could. I very much enjoy seeing someone understand a mathematical problem! I believe that knowledge is one of the most important facet in developing a successful life. One of my favorite joys is to see another person learn something new and to make use of that knowledge in his life or career. Without education one is severely handicapped in the development of becoming a complete person. Education is the key. Realizing that people are all different, I am flexible in my teaching methods, slowing down or speeding up my delivery and/or the complexity of the material with each student. I believe that course development should be goal-oriented so that when the student progresses to successful completion of that goal, there is a sense of achievement.

A Little Bit About Me...

I worked for as a teacher in a New York city high school for 10 years and as Assistant Principal of Mathematics for 15 years. I've now retired and moved to North Port. During the early onset of my teaching career I tutored privately at my home many students ranging from grade 3 to college math. Although my plan was not to work anymore, I find myself working as an adjunct instructor at the local communtiy college where I live. I once again, find myself tutoring privately in my home, students who come to me for help. I am very familiar with the SES program, I supervised the program at my last school in Brooklyn and understand the stakes and what the needed outcomes should be.
My teaching style varied depending on the students abilities in my classes. When whole group or direct instruction was needed, I utilized it; if hands-on instruction was needed, I utilized that strategy. I ... read more
