I am a recent graduate of UNCW with a BA in English and a teaching certification in Secondary Education. Currently interning in the Wilmington area, I have been working with 9th and 10th graders in English, developing basic writing and critical reading skills. Over the last four years, I have also tutored in Algebra I, Geometry, History and Science for grades 6-12.
I enjoy working with students, especially middle school and high school, and seeing them have a "lightbulb moment". A Little Bit About Me...

Having wanted to teach since I was a child, I pursued my degree at UNC Wilmington and graduated magna cum laude in May 2010. I now teach at Duplin Early College High School and am finishing my first year of teaching. I cemented my desire to teach through various part-time jobs as a college student: tutoring special needs, substitute teaching, tutoring in writing, mentoring middle school students, and as a camp counselor. I have found a great place in teaching, especially tutoring, due to my desire to help other people. I enjoy walking students through new information and giving them a firm understanding of the concepts and facts. I believe that there is nothing outside of a students grasp. As a graduate from western Carolina University, I earned my BS in Criminal Justice in three years and am close to gaining my MS in Human Services. I have been working in the human service field as a case manager/community support worker. Although it is not thought of as a teaching job, I have had the pleasure of teaching children and adults basic skills, academic skills and assisting with homework. My teaching style is adaptive. I believe everyone has the capacity to learn. The approach to learning is what makes the difference. Being a mother, I love children and am very patient. I also know that kids have their own distinct personalities and I address each child as an individual person, with their own talents and ideas. There is nothing better than when a person's face lights up, young or old, when they "get it."
