I am a recent graduate of UNCW with a BA in English and a teaching certification in Secondary Education. Currently interning in the Wilmington area, I have been working with 9th and 10th graders in English, developing basic writing and critical reading skills. Over the last four years, I have also tutored in Algebra I, Geometry, History and Science for grades 6-12.
I enjoy working with students, especially middle school and high school, and seeing them have a "lightbulb moment". This is the moment they finally realize that they understand what they have been struggling with. I pride myself on my ability to provide students with various learning experiences for all subjects. A Little Bit About Me...

Having wanted to teach since I was a child, I pursued my degree at UNC Wilmington and graduated magna cum laude in May 2010. I now teach at Duplin Early College High School and am finishing my first year of teaching. I cemented my desire to teach through various part-time jobs as a college student: tutoring special needs, substitute teaching, tutoring in writing, mentoring middle school students, and as a camp counselor. I have extensive knowledge and practice of grammar, writing skills and forms, literary analysis, history/social studies, general music, general theater, and general film through my experiences teaching or through the aforementioned part-time jobs.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a parent of two adult sons, I have had the opportunity to work with youngsters at all stages of their development. In addition, I have always been involved in various young activities including Little League baseball, cub scounts, youth soccer etc. I believe that setting a good example of appropriate behavior helps children to learn positive ways of accomplishing goals. A Little Bit About Me...

I have found a great place in teaching, especially tutoring, due to my desire to help other people. I enjoy walking students through new information and giving them a firm understanding of the concepts and facts. I believe that there is nothing outside of a students grasp. I present the information straight forward, then use analogies and metaphors to relate the information to the students on a different level, giving them a more solid comprehension of the material. A Little Bit About Me...

Since graduating with my Chemistry degree in 1997, I have volunteered off and on within the classroom, mentoring and tutoring children of all ages. I have several younger siblings and children of my own, so I have taken the many opportunities to go in and out of the classroom as a classroom parent, after school program teacher, guest speaker, and mentor and judge for the Future City competition (an annual engineering competition for middle school children).
