A Little Bit About Me...

I am a recent graduate of UNCW with a BA in English and a teaching certification in Secondary Education. Currently interning in the Wilmington area, I have been working with 9th and 10th graders in English, developing basic writing and critical reading skills. Over the last four years, I have also tutored in Algebra I, Geometry, History and Science for grades 6-12.
I enjoy working with students, especially middle school and high school, and seeing them have a "lightbulb moment". This is the moment they finally realize that they understand what they have been struggling with. I pride myself on my ability to provide students with various learning experiences for all subjects. I believe this is what makes the most difference in gaining subject knowledge.

As a parent of two adult sons, I have had the opportunity to work with youngsters at all stages of their development. In addition, I have always been involved in various young activities including Little League baseball, cub scounts, youth soccer etc. I believe that setting a good example of appropriate behavior helps children to learn positive ways of accomplishing goals. As a substitute teacher, I must go into classrooms and establish a positive relationship with the class, interact with a number of different and unique personailities and engage them in such a way that learning can take place.
