German is one of my top subjects! I am a U.S.-born American citizen, but, due to my childhood status as a military brat, spent 10 total years in Germany. During my time there, I immersed myself in the language and in the culture, even spending one year of my undergraduate studies at a German university. I extended my knowledge of German at the university (The University of the South, The University of Colorado) and now hold a Bachelor's and a Master's in German. I also have two years of formal university-level teaching experience as a teaching assistant at CU Boulder. My experience with the German language occupies the past 12 years of my life. I began learning the language when I was 11 years old and had moved to Germany because my parents were employed by the U.S. Air Force. While in Germany, I was constantly immersed in the German culture and economy, and made many German, Austrian, and Swiss friends with whom I spoke German daily. Due to family issues, I dropped out at in the 9th grade but due to extensive reading most of my life on many subjects, and being gifted intellectually, thank God, I was enrolled in college at the age of 16. Due to my age, I lacked the discipline needed to succeed then so joined the Army at 18 and finished first in my class in their HS program. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is facilitative. I ask a lot of questions and require my students to practice a minimum of 3 examples in front of me for every technique I explain. I have a fun style and enjoy watching the confidence grow in my pupils. The only child that ever lost interest in what I had to say was my own. :)

I started out doing nanny work in college. After graduating in 1998, I moved to Detroit, Michigan to pursue a career in language studies. I became the Language Training Director for a language services company. I supervised a teaching staff of 150 instructors who gave language instruction to businessmen and women who were relocating for business purposes. We gave instruction in language and culture, while providing relocation help to families who were settling in the US. In 2002 I taught American Literature and Conversational English classes at Oral Roberts University's University Language Institute. In 2003, I worked as an Aupair and tutor in Switzerland for 1 year. A Little Bit About Me...

While earning my MA in English, I spent two years tutoring students in English and training/mentoring other tutors. For the last two years, I have been designing and delivering trianing curriculum. I have plans to return to Middle Tennessee State University in January 2012 to earn my PhD in Math and Science Education.
I love helping people, particularly children, reach their full potential by becoming life-long learners. Whenever I meet with a student, whether it be one-on-oe or in the classroom, I strive to identify his/her learning style and to create a connection to the lesson to his/her future experiences in the world beyond the classroom.
