Math is a different subject than most as it builds upon itself. When teaching a higher level math I like to start with a review of the lower level math used in the process prior to explaining the more advanced procedure. I am also not a component of calculators. I first show a student how to do the procedure without a calculator then after they have mastered the process I will show them the calculator method. I have earned a B.S. in mathematics.
