Experience Summary
I am certified to teach students of kindergarten age through the 6th grade. I taught all subjects including math, reading, history, science, social studies, etc. This certification was achieved by attending Old Dominion University's Career Switcher Program.
As such a graduate of Virginia Tech with a Business Finance degree, I can teach a variety of subjects for older students, to include insurance, statistics, investment education, accounting, and marketing.
With my MBA, I was able to build upon my strengths as well as expand my knowledge to include labor relations and management skills. The program at VCU allowed me to continue to challenge myself, allowing further improvement as a businessperson.
Teaching Style
My teaching experience includes: underwriting skills enhancement for professional insurance agents; tutoring for Sylvan of kindergarten-age students through high school seniors; and introducing the building blocks of reading skills and math skills to elementary age children.
Learning can be interesting, fun, challenging and enriching. I find I can assist students by using my sense of humor; adapting to a student’s most effective way to learn (auditory, visual, contextual, etc.); and using my work experiences to help students make real world connections to abstract learning. I love seeing that flash in a student’s eyes because of something I did or said that allowed them to grasp the material we are studying.
