My comments on tutoring Florida Writes: Although I am well versed in this specific test and all of the skills that are assessed therein, this test will be phased out along with the FCAT in 2014. Its replacement has yet to be identified, but it will probably be designed to assess the requirements of the CCSS (Common Core State Standards) that are being fully implemented this school year in lieu of the Florida Sunshine Standards. See my description under Writing for a general picture of a tutoring plan for writing. All tutoring plans are individualized to meet the needs of the student.

I have a B.A. in Speech and Communications and a Masters Degree in Speech and Language. I especially love working with special needs children with learning disabilities and language deficits. I have experience in assessment and therapy for Articulation, Language, Autism, and Dyslexia for children and adults. During my tenure with the Palm Beach School District I was able to assist many middle school students with special needs to complete their IEP goals and be mainstreamed to regular classes. My philosophy for working with young children is that learning strategies are most effective when they are interactive and fun. I have been trained to use auditory, visual, tactile/kinesthetic strategies as well as adult learning concepts. Prior to becoming a tutor with a major national organization, I was engaged in training professionals in technical writing skills and computers, includ ... read more

I like teaching hands on and finding out with the student is into to help them connect with the area they are having trouble with. I like to make learning fun as well as applicable to real life situations so they can see how it applies to them. Right out of college I worked as a substitute teacher and then as a para-professional for 3-4 years with both learning support and emotional support students. Upon moving to Florida I accepted a third grade teaching position for St. Lucie County and have been doing that since 2007. I also tutored throughout this school year for a first grade and a third grade student.

In the future, I want to work with kids, helping them to become successful and self expressive. I believe this is a good experience for both the children and I in helping us further on with our goals. I love working with kids and only want to help! Math comes extremely easy to me and I can teach anyone with patience and persistence. I am also good with writing and reading. I can really relate to children who struggle with comprehension because as a young child, I struggled very much with it. I believe that I can help even more by viewing their struggles from their perspectives. I have little experience in tutoring. However, I have always helped my younger sister as well as some children I have babysat in the past. Even thought I have little experience, that is exactly why I am on this site. I crave the experience of working with children and helping them succeed! They have so much power

I use a Reciprocal/Practice based tutoring style. This an effective method because it allows me to interact with the student and help them grow more efficiently while holding an open discussion environment in each lesson. I then reinforce it with practice based assignments which are followed up with reviews in the beginning of the following class. This makes the student not only memorize definitions, but to also understand the reasoning behind different concepts. Business student at Florida Atlantic University. I graduated from A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts with honors in the visual arts, specializing in Architecture and Mathematics. I have also tutored for 4 years now while in school by teaching a wide variety of subjects to students from the ages of 5-20.

I choose to become a teacher because I think educators are one of, if not the most, influential people in the course of someone's life. Every student has the potential to excel in any subject, and I believe it is important to find out how the student learns best and implement this in teaching/tutoring them. Teaching requires patience and determination, and I believe these are two qualities I possess. I have spent the last five years in the United Kingdom working on my bachelor and master degrees in English Literature and Applied Linguistics. From 2003-2006 I volunteered at the University's Language Resource Center where I tutored international students on their English language skills (reading, writing, speaking) and study skills. I have just spent the past two months (July-August 07) working at a study tour program for Italian students. I was an ESL teacher and taught 15-20 students at

I have over 15 years experience instructing martial arts to children as young as pre-school age to young teens; and the past 5 years as an academic tutor for students ranging from elementary through middle school. Through my tutoring services, I’ve tutored students in Mathematics, but the majority of students I assist are struggling readers. To help struggling readers, I believe in strong intervention guided by planning, personal attention, positive reinforcement, and parental participation. All remedial instruction must begin with a plan, and for each struggling student my strategy is to establish an attainable "end goal" and a path to meet that goal. Once the plan is established, I believe in working with the student individually, or in small group. These sessions are important, because they provide a quiet, anxiety-free setting for the student, while enabling me to track progre
