I first started teaching in 2003 as a substitute to supplement the income from my guiding business during the slower portion of the year. After showing that I was very capable in the classroom and could quickly develop a strong rapport with coworkers and students, I was hired for the year when another teacher left unexpectedly. I went to school for the next year at the University of Kentucky, did not finish my degree, but earned enough credits to be hired by to teach in their Alternative School. I taught and was a leader and innovator at Cropper Alternative School for the next five years, until I decided to move to this part of the country after a recent divorce. I enjoy tutoring because I find it rewarding to build relationships with students and observe their progress. Once a student realizes that I genuinely care about her success, she is more likely to work hard and obey my instructions. In addition, I am a patient individual, which is a useful quality to have when one is having difficulty getting a student to comprehend a particular concept. I began my career in education in 1993 as an Instructional Aide. That experience cemented my desire to be a teacher. Since that time I have devoted myself to getting the education necessary for that dream to come true.I now have a Bachelor's in English, and a Master's in Education. While attending school I tutored after-school students and substituted whenever possible. Concurrent with my Master's studies I was attending the teacher training program. I hold an Institutional Recommendation for Credential. My Master's degree has an endorsement for teaching SEI (Sheltered English Immersion), and I hold a certificate for teaching TESL.
