Experience Summary
With a BA in Liberal studies my excellent writing skills complimented the thesis I wrote as a Masters of Science in Education student, and I grew as a teacher of reading when I researched strategies that would increase the academic success of a struggling first grade student learning to read. I have experience as a reading tutor for one year in a public elementary school, 16 years as a tutor, four years as a K-12 teacher in private and public schools. While earning my secondary English credential I taught theater arts and English at the high school level and later completed student teaching as a high school special education teacher. From these experiences I have increase my knowledge of subject areas such as literature & math.
Teaching Style
I begin teaching students after assessing their needs and experiences. My students are active learners as I instruct with games, music, and art. Students are engaged because the material I use relates to their level of development and life experiences. When students are engaged learning is enjoyable. Positive behavior supports include appropriate praise for specific tasks and affirmation for accomplishments. It is rewarding teaching children, observing their academic growth, and being a part of their discoveries in learning.
