I am a third year student studying for an Elementary Education degree through DmACC and Iowa State. I have just completed a year of Elementary Educator math courses. I have also have a degree in Practical Nursing and Limited Radiology Technology. I decided to go back to school to become an Elementary Teacher after being a nurse for several years and also ran a daycare out of my home when my kids were small. I currently work part-time as a Teacher's Associate at Ankeny Community Schools. I am looking to tutor during the summer months and possibly throughout the school year.

Children all learn different, which is why I believe in using direct instruction in guiding their learning. Some children are more visual learns, while others may be more auditory. Varying the levels of teaching can allow for each child's needs to be met. I feel that I am able to adapt and change what I need to teach to meet those needs. I also believe scaffolding is a key component in guiding the way a child is able to learn. While I earned my bachelor's degree in communication from Loyola, I also worked as an Academic coach for high school students. I spent a year tutoring students for an academic competition that tested all skill areas including, writing, math, history and science. I spent the summer of 2006 working closely with people with disabilities. I perfected my teaching skills through hands-on learning/teaching techniques. In addition to tutoring children and helping those I babysat with homework, I also taught horseback riding lessons to young children for three years.
