Experience Summary
As an Early Childhood Education major, I have had over 300 practicum hours of experience in different classroom settings ranging from preschool aged children to third grade. I have also had two months experience of student teaching in a kindergarten and preschool age classroom. I have had many experiences working with children in both daycare's, school settings and volunteer programs. In addition to these hands on experience, I have had over 100 credit hours of courses discussing, experiencing and reading about different techniques in how to teach children. I have also tutored students in the areas of elementary science, math, reading and writing.
Teaching Style
Children all learn different, which is why I believe in using direct instruction in guiding their learning. Some children are more visual learns, while others may be more auditory. Varying the levels of teaching can allow for each child's needs to be met. I feel that I am able to adapt and change what I need to teach to meet those needs. I also believe scaffolding is a key component in guiding the way a child is able to learn. Along with scaffolding, providing the experiences and opportunities for a child is very important in helping them to reach their full potential. I hope to make a difference in the lives of the children that I get to be a part of.
