A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara two years ago with two degrees in Spanish Literature and Women’s Studies I graduated with honors from both subjects of study. Through these two different programs I have learned language, reading, writing, grammatical skills due to the extensive reading and writing I did. I will say that my strongest skills are Spanish language, reading and writing. I am currently tutoring students to improve their reading skills in a High School setting.
I learned at a young age that everyone is different when it comes to learning. My goal as a teacher is to learn the student’s needs and apply a curriculum that will help the student reach their potential. I have taught and tutored hundreds of children while substitute teaching. I have found that my style is one which tries to involve the student in the learning process as much as possible. I love using volunteers to read aloud and participate in the learning process. My teaching style is very Socratic. I rarely give answers to students. I love to have them search and discover the answers on their own. This involves a lot of questions and guiding the student to the correct answer. When students discover the answer on their own it is much more rewarding and long lasting for them. I firmly believe in fostering critical thinking and building students' logical reasoning skills. I constantly remind them that the skills they are developing with me are not just valuable in math but stretch into real world situations as well and will help them throughout their entire life.
