A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very Socratic. I rarely give answers to students. I love to have them search and discover the answers on their own. This involves a lot of questions and guiding the student to the correct answer. When students discover the answer on their own it is much more rewarding and long lasting for them. I firmly believe in fostering critical thinking and building students' logical reasoning skills. I constantly remind them that the skills they are developing with me are not just valuable in math but stretch into real world situations as well and will help them throughout their entire life.

I worked in educational assessment for eight years, developing custom tests (in the reading/language arts and social studies content areas) for state departments of education. My focus was on creating tests (multiple-choice and essay-based) in alignment with state standards. In light of my extensive assessment experience, I understand how tests are written and organized, and I understand how to help students prepare for tests, as well as how to complete other assignments. I am a teacher of 20 years. My experience includes elementary, middle, and high school. I also taught for one year overseas. I have 3 years experience working as a tutor. I possess a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education. During the past 5 years I have worked at a self-paced charter school working with the program ALS.
