I worked for 12 years as a Special Education teacher in the public school system, teaching students with ADD, learning disabilities, autism, Aspergers, emotional and behavior disorders, and mild intellectual disabilities in a resource room and inclusion setting. I am able to quickly make significant connections with the students, building the good rapport that is essential to achieving a good working relationship. I especially enjoy working with reluctant and struggling readers, and nothing makes me happier than to see them overcome the obstacles that have kept them from success.

A Little Bit About Me...

During the last 10 years I have worked with all levels of students, preschool through college levels. These areas include reading, math, english, psychology, science and social studies. I am a self starter and have worked with parents when I owned/operated my private daycare. I have since then worked with children in low poverty communities in Atlanta Georgia, in order to provide an alternative method to learning to ensure that children receive the appropriate level of understanding of various subjects.
What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. A Little Bit About Me...

Prior to earning my degree in education, I was a sign language interpreter for the Deaf. I noticed that Deaf students were not getting an adequate education so I decided to finish my degree so that I would have the ability to have more influence with my student's ability to be successful regardless of their disability. I earned my BA in education with an endorsement in English. I have also had additional education in the area of Diversity and experience in working with special needs students. I have had the opportunity to tutor adults and children in sign language, English, Social Studies and math. My strong suit is being able to assist a student in finding a way for them to find understanding in their studies.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of Mercer University, I have had the opportunity to work with students in many different grades while completing my many student teaching experiences. After graduating, I began working on my Master's Degree in Elementary Reading and Mathematics with Walden University. I am only two classes short of completing my degree and will have it finished up in a little over four months. I recently began tutoring students from grades 3 through 11 using the Wilson Reading System. I definitely enjoy teaching and tutoring and look forward to any further assistance I may be able to provide.
