I have substitute taught for over 16 years and this past year I worked with the SES program tutoring. My areas of focus are sciences and maths but I have had to tutor reading. This year I tutored middle school students but I have tutored elementary as well. I tend to focus on the high level maths and sciences often taking long term positions in high school. I started substitute teaching when I was in undergraduate school just as a source of income and because I like teaching. My mother is a retired teacher who taught for over 30 years. I approach tutoring from an adaptive stance, in that I believe each student learns best in his own, unique way. Some students prefer a more direct approach while others would prefer something resembling the socratic method. My ultimate goal is for the students to be comfortable and confident with the material.
