Experience Summary
As the child of college educated parents who themselves were educators, I was drawn to education early in my life. I love to read and to help others to read. I have a Masters Degree in Reading Instruction. I also like to write. Wherever I worked as an educator, I always emphasized developing writing skills, whether I was teaching middle school students or high school students or community college students. I also did homebound tutoring for a few years when I was a dean and then assistant principal. I firmly believe that I can assist any student in learning the skills of reading and writing, or in anything involving high school or college literature, or in preparing for various standardized tests.
Teaching Style
I firmly believe that I am a student-centered educator. My ego is not involved in what I am doing. Each child learns in a different manner. A teacher's job is that of finding out how each student learns and then developing lessons that benefit each student. The same applies to tutoring. It is my job to find out how this person I am tutoring learns. Then I get after assisting this student to learn as he or she learns best. Most people learn by doing - in some way. It is simply finding that way that is the key. In the past I have been able to get this done and my students have succeeded.
