A Little Bit About Me...

In college I was a nanny to three middle school students for two years. While being their nanny I was also their tutor in all subjects but focused on math. I graduated from SJSU with a major in History and a minor in Mathematics. I substitute taught in January and February 2007 then was a long-term substitute from March until the end of May in a sixth grade math, science, and history combination class. For the past two years I have taught eighth grade Algebra. While teaching I have also tutored a sixth grade student in math.
I believe there are multiple learning styles. One of my goals as a teacher is to find each students' learning style and teach to fit their needs. I believe that practice makes perfect but also that learning needs to be fun. I set the bar high for my students and do my best to help motivate them to reach a high standard.

I have always been driven to learn and pursue and education, this led me to completing my bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in history from UC- San Diego. I enjoyed tutoring math, science and english while in high school and continued in college. After graduating I volunteered in Chile teaching English which greatly improved my teaching skills and improved my Spanish Language abilities. I currently work as a substitute teacher which allows me to continue to gain teaching experience while I work towards a full credential

I have worked both at private and public middle schools. I've gained great respect for diversity in all it's wonderful forms. My experience has taught me that each child, not only deserves, but dreams of success. My belief that each child is "gift-brilliant" in some area, grows stronger the more experienced I become in my career as an educator and as a parent. Having taught for 8 years, and through my own personal journey, I firmly believe that it is not our children that have difficulties learning, it's us who have difficulties teaching; we need to develop strategies that meet each child's learning style.
