Alfred C. - Cape Coral, FL 33990 (14.9 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $20.00/hr.
My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school.
I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me.
I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam.
No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

Edward C. - La Belle, FL 33935 (16 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $35.00/hr.
Lead the student to find the right answer himself or herself if possible. I have done private tutoring of high school students in math from pre-algebra to calculus and in other subjects. I have also home schooled adopted daughters from lower grades to high school level, including teaching English as a second language. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant in an electric machinery laboratory for non-electrical engineering majors. My own experience with standardized tests includes having taken the ACT in 1971 with scores ranging from 22 (76th percentile) in English to 31 (97th percentile) in math with a composite of 27 (93rd percentile) and having passed the GRE in 1975.
Other previous experience includes 34 years experience as a communication system engineer. This experience includes satellite communications and other communications for the US military, NASA, FAA, and commerc

Elena S. - Rotonda West, FL 33947 (34.6 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $40.00/hr.
I am a professional teacher. I have 15 years of experience teaching. I have taught Math and Computer Science in college. Also I have taught in both public and private school systems. I have experience private tutoring for students in school, college and also university.
I do understand that all students learn at different degrees but they all can learn better. So I am always teaching my students with considering their individual characteristics. I enjoy teaching because I very often hear from my students that they really start to understand Math or Computer Science better only when I take them to learn.
Working one-on-one with a student is a great opportunity to really focus on the individual characteristics and academic needs of the student and helping them to be more successful in learning.

One on one or group. Lessons taught, homework assigned, then follow up of homework assignment. My experience, (both academic and work)has been widely varied, ranging from research and engineering to financial management in a corporate environment, followed by golf course design and landscape management. In addition I used my experience in construction and woodworking to build and market patio furniture. Unfortunately the housing depression of the mid 2000's caused the business to be non profitable and was closed. Since 2005 I have been semi retired and used my construction experience to work at a lumber and hardware store.

George B. - Venice, FL 34292 (44.7 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $27.50/hr.
My major complaint with the current pedagogy of STEM fields is there focus on teaching students to be able to produce answers so a slew of canned and frankly uninteresting problem sets. There is so much interesting literature, philosophy, and history in the fields of science and physics that it makes very little sense to muddle with these less helpful and dull techniques and problems. Physics and math education has become so perforated with cliche that shows like Cosmos and the elegant universe can become hits by just regurgitating the same buzz-theories (Schrodinger's cat, Black holes, the multiverse etc.) in the same, cloddish language (space-time is 'warped' and twisted, quantum 'weirdness', etc). This lack of original language and analogy is not a semantical issue; it's suggestive of the philistine cleaving of the sciences from the arts and it's very disturbing -- these truly awesome

Rosa M - Lehigh Acres, FL 33974 (4.1 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $40.00/hr.
As an employee of Collier County Public Schools for 10 years, I have been in the education field and enjoy working with students of all ages. Since 2004, I have been tutoring students from grades Pre Kindergarten through 12th grade and even post graduate students. My tutoring has been math, reading, writing, science, history and other areas like SAT testing preparation. Currently I hold a BS in Management and have a teaching certificate pending for grades Pre Kindergarten - 3rd grade. I have tutored in private homes as well as at school, public libraries and educational centers. Throughout my tutoring experiences I have tutored one on one as well as group tutoring, depending on the need of each child and what the subject being tutored in. I have my own tutoring materials and am familiar with pre and post testing the students. I have been working with children for 10 years and absol

Kathleen B - Lehigh Acres, FL 33971 (4.8 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $40.00/hr.
My teaching style is conversational and relaxed. I am an expert at overcoming school-related anxiety, especially related to math. I have excellent listening and communication skills and quickly pick up what my students needs are. I am quick on my feet and am able to flex with nearly any situation so that the student's needs are met. I very much enjoy connecting with my students, and relating their personal interests to the material being learned. I believe that modeling is one of the best ways to teach, and students learn quickly when I explain the concept and then we model together how to find a solution. I began my education at Purdue University, where I completed three years of a Construction Engineering and Management program. I then changed to an education program at Trinity International University and graduated with a BS in Secondary Math Education. During college and in t

Elizabeth W - Fort Myers, FL 33905 (5.2 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $39.00/hr.
I have always been driven to succeed, especially in school. I graduated magna cum laude with my BA in Communication this past December. This degree increased my own ability to communicate effectively and I am now pursuing a BA in English this Fall so that I can teach high school English. I am fortunate in that I have done well in all of my general education classes, making me confident in my ability to tutor algebra I and II, geometry, chemistry, biology, earth science, and of course English, whether it be writing, reading, or grammar. This past year I have been tutoring Algebra, as well as basic math skills in order to catch my students up to their current grade level. I have worked with children for what seems like my whole life, mostly through church. I know that every child can succeed with the right help. I myself am caring, compassionate, patient, and encouraging. I believe that my

Daniel G - Fort Myers, FL 33966 (8.7 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $41.50/hr.
I enjoy working with children of all ages. I enjoy children who can appreciate being challenged, wanting to learn, and children who truly want to succeed. I always strive for the best. I believe anyone can meet their potential if they are willing and able to put the time, effort, and sacrifice into what they need. As an Engineer major, I am interested in math and science in particular. I carried a 3.85 GPA throughout college, and earned a Golden Key International Honor Society award. I believe that working hard to achieve the top grades of your class will make you successful, and a good student.

Andrew L - Ft. Myers, FL 33912 (11.7 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $36.00/hr.
After graduation I taught English for 28 years. During this time I became a Dept. Head. I also was trained to train teachers in learning styles and hemisphericity. I have adult AD/HD. I began working on teaching methods for AD/HD students. I have also trained over 200 teachers.
I have tutored students for the GED, ACT, SAT, LSAT, and MCAT. I believe strongly in approaching each child with a variety of techniques. I let the child explore why, then give concept information. The student then needs to practice, and finally personalize the information. This must be done using both analysis (left brain) and synthesis(right brain).

Gwendolyn M - Fort Myers, FL 33908 (13 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $40.50/hr.
As I discovered while in college, I have been instructing people all of my life. While working in the food-service industry for the past twenty-plus years, I have held supervisory positions and provided training to literally hundreds of employees. This natural ability to work with others became apparent when I began tutoring. I have strong organizational skills and have been trained in many aspects of tutoring through my involvement in the Supplemental Instruction Program at Florida Gulf Coast University. As a non-traditional student working toward overcoming disability, I have compassion and determination in my own personal presentation which lends to my authenticity. As a non-traditional student, my college experience awarded me many advantages, as well as, many opportunities to uncover hidden skills. I began tutoring for Student Support Services while attending community college

Dayna P - Estero, FL 33928 (14.5 mi) - SAT - Math Tutor - $37.50/hr.
I believe the best way to teach is to relate the subject to the children. A child may not understand fractions but if you ask them to divide up a candy bar, they know how many pieces they want to split it in to and how many they want. I believe that listening is the key to teaching. A good teacher and a good listener is the difference between a child attending school and a child excelling in school. While living in Japan, I taught English to the Japanese nationals and was a teacher's aide in the Department of Defense Dependent's Schools in the special needs department. I worked directly with middle school children who had ADD, ADHD as well as other physical handicaps including Cerebral Palsy. I have 3 children that I have had to help with their homework and projects throughout the years. I enjoy working with children and believe education is the key to developing responsible adults
