I graduated from the University of Maine "with distinction" and as a memeber of the Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society. My teaching experience began with the Upward Bound Program where I taught Language Arts and provided in-home tutoring in a diversity of subjects. I then worked for the Penobscot Job Corps Program, a program designed to provide vocational training to “culturally and economically disadvantaged youth." During my 23 years there I held a variety of direct service and administrative positions including teaching the following classes: World of Work, Intergroup Relations, Exit Readiness, Leadership I and II, and workshops of job preparedness. I am a home-schooling mom who has been tutoring mathematics for over ten years. I began tutoring math while still in high school. In college, I facilitated study groups and 1-on-1 tutoring sessions. I graduated with a BA in Mathematics with a GPA of 3.19. I am a member of the Math Honor Society Pi Mu Epsilon. I have spent the last year teaching math through an Adult Education program, where I have helped dozens of people get past there fear of math and move into understanding. I have experience working with a wide spectrum of learning styles and disabilities. I believe that everyone posses the ability to learn and that no two people learn exactly the same way. I present mathematical concepts in a way that will arouse curiosity and interest in the subject in a way that is unusual, new or otherwise fascinating for each individual student. Working with people, particularly children, has always been a passion of mine. Through the psychology program at Husson College I was able to gain a better understanding of human interaction, interpersonal relationships, as well as to obtain further insight on the foundation of the cognitive wiring in which we all possess. I also have a 6 year old daughter, who I have found to be the key to my drive in watching all children achieve academic success. I think the process starts with parents but branches out into the world of educators, and truly is a battle that can be won as long as there is always a core group of people committed to each child's success in the classroom. As a current graduate student I have had the opportunity to learn a great deal about the effective techniques and skills it takes for one to succeed within the classroom.
