Dyslexia is one of my top subjects! I am a Wilson Certified reading teacher and have been teaching dyslexic students how to read for 9 years. I ran a program in Massachusetts in the public school setting for students with dyslexia.

I have formally taught and tutors for 12 years. I believe I have been most successful because of the rapport I build with students. I hold high expectations and believe in them! Below is a summary of my experience: -special educator in a public school setting for 12 years. -taught 9th grade for two years, 3-5th grade for seven years and 6th grade for four years. -I have taught students with a wide range of abilities in the mainstream setting and in separate settings. For the last 3 years I ran a program in grade for students with language based learning disabilities including dyslexia. I was their language arts and reading teacher as well as their learning center teacher. -my expertise is reading including decoding, comprehension, fluency and vocabulary, but I am also very experienced in teaching writing and math.

A Little Bit About Me...

Every student has a unique combination of learning styles, but he or she also has a predominant one such as visual learner, kinesthetic learner, etc. I try to figure out which style or styles the student responds to and use those styles to get through to the student. I also have the student explain the problem to me. Usually there is only one area where the student has gone astray in his or her thinking. By explaining the problem to me, I can see what he is and is not “getting.” Then we can concentrate only on what the student does not know.
I can tutor any level math through college, physics, Spanish, English, ESL, earth and physical science. A Little Bit About Me...

I love to learn and everyone learns differently. I believe that if the information is not being understood one way, then we need to find another way to instruct. Hands-on learning and learning through experience always leaves a lasting impression. Just memorizing facts, although in some cases that is necessary, it is just not fun for all students and just may not stick unless learned in a fun way. I want to make learning fun because no one should ever stop learning. There is just too much out there to sit back and let life pass you by.
I attended a preparatory school in Junior High and High School. I then went on to Mississippi College where I obtained a Bachelor degree in Home Economics with an emphysis on Fashion Merchandising.
