Dyslexia is one of my top subjects! I am a Wilson Certified reading teacher and have been teaching dyslexic students how to read for 9 years. I ran a program in Massachusetts in the public school setting for students with dyslexia.

I have formally taught and tutors for 12 years. I believe I have been most successful because of the rapport I build with students. I hold high expectations and believe in them! Below is a summary of my experience: -special educator in a public school setting for 12 years. -taught 9th grade for two years, 3-5th grade for seven years and 6th grade for four years. -I have taught students with a wide range of abilities in the mainstream setting and in separate settings. For the last 3 years I ran a program in grade for students with language based learning disabilities including dyslexia. I was their language arts and reading teacher as well as their learning center teacher. -my expertise is reading including decoding, comprehension, fluency and vocabulary, but I am also very experienced in teaching writing and math.

I love to learn and everyone learns differently. I believe that if the information is not being understood one way, then we need to find another way to instruct. Hands-on learning and learning through experience always leaves a lasting impression. Just memorizing facts, although in some cases that is necessary, it is just not fun for all students and just may not stick unless learned in a fun way. I want to make learning fun because no one should ever stop learning. There is just too much out there to sit back and let life pass you by.
I attended a preparatory school in Junior High and High School. I then went on to Mississippi College where I obtained a Bachelor degree in Home Economics with an emphysis on Fashion Merchandising. I have a total of 15 years experience speaking, reading and writing Spanish. I am very familiar with the different Spanish language variants. I lived in Chile for almost two consecutive years, and studied in Costa Rica for a short time. My B.A. is in Anthropology and Spanish, and my M.S. is in International Studies. I currently teach at a local community college. I have tutored elementary, high school and university level student with learning disabilities in Latin American history, the Spanish Language, English composition, music, Science, History, Geography, and other subject areas (and I've also taught both English and Spanish as second languages).
