I like to start by encouraging the student to demonstrate what they know, and then give them a little nudge of guidance when they come to something that confuses them. If they're really stumped, then I try to teach them first from a conventional standpoint, then switch to a more example-based explanation. There is almost always an example or an analogy that can explain something that is confusing a student. Sometimes it takes a few examples before you find the one that makes sense to that person, but with a little patience it becomes easily understandable for the student.

I have always ended up in leadership positions which gives me the opportunity to teach. I generally supervise adults and in this role act as teacher for processes, procedures, rules and general good practices. I am a great learner, which I think makes for a great teacher because I want to be sure that whomever I am working with finds the excitement in really understanding a topic. My teaching style focuses on teaching students how to find the big picture. If they understand what it is they are trying to do, then showing them how to get there becomes easier. Any student can learn math, and have the capability to understand numbers, this just comes harder for some and easier for others. In my past I have benefited greatly from some math teachers, and fallen behind in classes where I was not getting what the teacher was talking about. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always found that one-on-one teaching is my forte. Even when I teach a class of 40 students, I find ways for them to work collaboratively, and so that I can also work with the ones that need the most help. I have been tutoring and teaching for 16 years, and I know all the tricks to being a good tutor, such as explaining a concept in as many possible ways in order to get the student to understand the concept.
