It is important for me to determine what motivates each student to learn, what their interests are and what is important to them. I wanted the student to see how each lesson was valuable to their future success. I always got my students involved in the classroom with open discussions. Each week my students gave a five minute presentation on a subject of their choise, building their self confidence along with their reading, writing and speaking skills.

I am a speech and language pathologist with a Masters Degree in Communicative Disorders. I have 6 years working in the public school setting with elementary and middle school students. As a special education specialist, I have had the opportunity to work with children with various needs such as language deficits, learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, etc. I have been an active member of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of school administrators, psychologists, general education teachers, occupational therapists, literacy specialists, ESL specialists and nurses, in which each team member contributed their professional expertise in implementing an individualized education program to meet the needs of each individual student.
