Providing educational support services is a continual, developmental process. Just as employees and students change, so should the support services that are available. Services should be flexible and diverse while at the same time maintaining the highest level of quality. Strong educational supports will promote critical thinking and skill development in its students. It will offer variety, through complex learning environments and barrier-free opportunities. Additionally effective support services will address the whole student, from a personal perspective, offering assistance with non-academic issues that will allow the student to perform and achieve at his/her greatest capacity. As it has evolved over the years, my teaching style has become a mix of facilitation and direct instruction, with the goal always being the student's making his own discovery. I was trained in the Socratic style, which seems to match well with inquiry-based learning, and that is how my classes usually end up. I introduce activities, then gradually release them to the students to lead. Over the last 15 years, I have worked in various different areas. First, I taught adult ESL, and had occasional tutoring gigs with Russian speakers learning English, and some English speakers learning Russian. Currently, I work as a special education teacher. Part of my job is to work in small ratios with honors students who have disabilities. This "study skills" class often requires one-on-one tutoring.

As a high school honors student, I majored in English and achieved the highest score possible (five -- 5) on the English Exam. In College, I pursued my interest in English language by majoring in Literature, with an emphasis upon etymology, linguistics, speech and rhetoric. My senior thesis on the poetic technique of Alexander Pope earned both an "Honors A" and that year's sole English Faculty Award. I later chose to attend a law school that was renowned for its general emphasis upon writing and, in particular, "plain English" legal communication. I love to see students grasp a new concept and revisit their work with greater pride and confidence as a result. Realizing we all learn in differing rates and manners, I find great satisfaction in teaching in several ways at the same time (e.g., varying visual and auditory cues, telling stories and providing mnemonic devices). Having worked w

I've been teaching most of my life, first as a rank one student to my classmates and friends and later as a physics and math instructor. I enjoy showing the easy ways to go through complicated looking problems and concepts to my students and I like to witness their academic accomplishments which build the confident to be successful in life as well. As a mom, I've learned to be patient and easy going. As a teacher, I try to find the best approach for individual students. Some of them need more guided practice and examples, while some benefit from independent work. My pace and level of difficulty in teaching will be determined by the student background and potential and it usually goes from slow/easy to harder/faster.

While completing my BS in engineering, I spent two years tutoring math, physics, and optics. During my senior year I was also able to teach a portion of two terms of the freshman optics class. During the last four years I have worked as an aerospace engineer, and as a private contractor. Although these weren't teaching positions, I believe that these experiences have given me unique opportunities to share my knowledge and will be helpful to me in the future for teaching and tutoring. What strikes me most as I look back at my education is how much of an impact a teacher can have when they make their subject relevant to their students. When I am teaching I try to find out what motivates each student as a person, in addition to what is motivating them to take the class. My goal is to find a way to present the material in such a way that the experience of learning is a journey of meanin

I really believe that everyone has their own learning style. As a Psychology major, I understand and adapt to all learning preferences, whether it be visual, auditory or tactile and provide the best tools and strategies for learning. I am very patient and easygoing but believe that everyone can achieve great things given the right tools and resources. I obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Foreign Languages and Cultures with an emphashis on French at Washington State University. At the same institution, I was a volunteer tutor. Between August 2007 and May 2009 I was a tutor for individuals getting their High school diplomas. I volunteered to tutor at the High School Equivalency Program(HEP) at Washington State University. In the program I tutored 20 Mexican/Mexican American students in various subjects including: math, science, and English. I also provided guidance and preparation for the GED

I love helping and teaching children. I have given riding lessons to all ages of children for years, realizing there is no better feeling than helping children accomplish their goals. I would love to help children in any way I can to meet their academic goals, I know what it is like to have to study hard for what you want to accomplish. Being 25 I feel, and just being a graduate myself, I think can be a way to relate to the children and what they are trying to achieve. I would love to gain this type of experience and would really enjoy this type of work. I also have had a lot of psychology classes and feel that I am good at connecting with people and understanding the problems they are trying to get through. I just graduated from PLU with a degree in Business, a concentration in human resources, and a minor in psychology. I maintained a high GPA throughout my college experience and gradu

It is my belief that teaching truly works only in partnership with learning. My preferred approach to teaching is to start by finding out about students' needs and interests to help them develop and meet their goals. By planning out what students have to learn and showing how these things can lead to what they want, teachers bring students into the process of taking responsibility for their own education. Finally, accepting responsibility for their own education allows students to become life-long learners, which improves their ability to adapt and change with future challenges. I have worked with students of almost every age and level. My first teaching degree was a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. With that degree, I worked in a preschool, and I have substituted extensively in elementary schools and in middle and high schools for 12 years, learning to work with math system
