Experience Summary
I have worked with students of almost every age and level. My first teaching degree was a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. With that degree, I worked in a preschool, and I have substituted extensively in elementary schools and in middle and high schools for 12 years, learning to work with math systems such as Investigations and Expressions. At the same time I have aided and taught evening classes for adults learning basic skills to further their educational and career goals, and I have volunteered to teach Sunday school and ESL. To better understand the specific needs of adult learners, my latest degree was a Master's in Adult Education.
Teaching Style
It is my belief that teaching truly works only in partnership with learning. My preferred approach to teaching is to start by finding out about students' needs and interests to help them develop and meet their goals. By planning out what students have to learn and showing how these things can lead to what they want, teachers bring students into the process of taking responsibility for their own education. Finally, accepting responsibility for their own education allows students to become life-long learners, which improves their ability to adapt and change with future challenges.
